Site details

Recommended if both versions of your site work.

Site owner

Owners keep a name, character colour, and badge colour that stick — they survive resets and reconnects. Crown a visitor under Moderation to add an owner, then customise their look here.

Your neighbourhood

See the TownSquares that connect with yours. Incoming towns link here, outgoing towns are on your signposts, and mutual towns do both.

Your outgoing signposts

Link a town to the left or right edge of your square. Saved links appear automatically — no need to re-paste the snippet.

Moderation

Bot protection is enabled by default. Each visitor's browser solves a small proof-of-work before joining, adding a brief invisible delay that blocks simple raw-socket scripts. Switch it off only when that tradeoff is unnecessary for your site.

Read the live conversation and moderate it on its own page.

Chat filtering

Filtered words are masked in chat and visitor names — whole-word and case-insensitive. Slow mode is the minimum time between a visitor's messages.

Scene customization

Edit the scene, colors, and message board with a live preview. Changes only go live on your site once you press Publish. Your colors are delivered automatically — see the Embed snippet section for details.

Scene props

This square has [ ] benches , [ ] tree , [ ] lamp , and [ ] birds .

Style overrides

Pick a color for each swatch, or toggle None to make it transparent. Click a transparent swatch to set a color.

Message board

Leave a note visitors can read by clicking the board. It appears on your site once you Publish and shows a "!" badge until each visitor opens it. The board only appears once it has a title or message.

Embed snippet

Recommended: Paste this once where you want the square to appear. It carries your site identity and colors — everything you change above (scene, colors, neighbour links, message board) updates automatically, no re-pasting needed. Scene changes reach connected visitors immediately; colors update with the linked stylesheet.

Power user? You can pin any field (scene, connections, messageBoard) directly in the snippet's options, or add custom CSS on your own site to override colors. See "Custom CSS override" below.

Presence counter

A small "N people here" badge for pages where the full square is too much. It loads no scene and opens no connection, so showing it never adds a visitor. Clicking it scrolls to a square on the same page, or sends visitors to the page you choose below. Pick a look, then paste the snippet.

If the full square is on the same page as the badge, clicking just scrolls to it — leave this blank. Set it only when the badge sits on a page without the square (e.g. a blog post or footer); then clicks send visitors to this page instead.

Want full control of the look? Every value is a CSS variable — override --ts-counter-accent, --ts-counter-bg, --ts-counter-ink, --ts-counter-radius, and more on the .ts-counter element in your own stylesheet.

Custom CSS override (optional)

For advanced customization only. If you want to override the colors from your own website's stylesheet instead of using the automatic updates above, paste this CSS. Your custom CSS will take priority and won't update when you change colors here — you'd need to re-copy it manually.

When to use this: You want full control over colors in your site's own stylesheet, or you want to coordinate TownSquare colors with the rest of your site's design. Otherwise, stick with the standard snippet above — it's simpler and updates automatically.
